Do you think these ideas would help improve our schools?

Often, I wonder whether or not it would be a good idea to enforce uniforms for all public and private schools. It would indeed deter any separation between economic cles and the possibility for kids to wear gang attire and controversial clothing. The Japanese enforce this policy in all educational institutions, and they have a greater reputation for showing respect than we Americans do. The second idea would be making schools year-round. I figure there could be four eleven-week semesters with two-week breaks in between. Add that up, and that's eight weeks off a year. That's still more vacation than most Americans ever get in a lifetime. The last one entails corporal punishment. An elderly coworker of mine who went to Catholic school is all for this. Would anyone support the concept of or disciplining kids in schools like they used to? I support the first two principles, but I'm still on the fence about the last one. Obviously something unusual must be done because our schools are failing with our usual methods now. Nevertheless, there are now more parents today than ever before homeschooling their kids because they don't trust the public schools. Would anyone mind sharing their input on this one?
